Marathon Training
Written by Donald Wheaton
Tuesday, June 12, 2007

As part of a challenge from my friend Jason Weiss from the Houston area, I'm training to do a marathon at the end of summer. Jason is training for the half-marathon. We're planning on competing in the Presque Isle event on September 9. It's been over ten years and 50 pounds since I ran a marathon, so the goal is only to finish with under the minimum pace of 12:00 minutes per mile. We've got multiple ways of tracking our progress, including the Garmin Forerunner 305 GPS with heart rate monitor and Nike Plus kit. Here's a live summary of the training miles for this year:

Therese Wheaton is living out her girlhood dream. Instead of waking up, she finds it just gets better.

"Many little girls love horses and most never got to do it, but it's something you never lose," said Wheaton. "I have just had the good fortune to live out that little childhood dream."

Admittedly, it took awhile to get the dream rolling. Wheaton was 30 years old when she got her first horse, an Arabian mare named Crystal, in 1994.
